Anchored Baptist Church exists to magnify the glory and beauty of God and treasure Him above all else.
We believe that God is supremely glorious and beautiful, and therefore our purpose is to delight in Him, to treasure Him above all else, to live in ways that reflect His incomparable worth, and to make Him known to others.
We are not defined by a “theological brand”, movement, or personality. We seek to be a church governed by Scripture — committed to the authority, clarity, sufficiency, and faithful interpretation of God’s Word according to sound biblical hermeneutics. Our aim is that all doctrine and practice would flow from the intended meaning of Scripture, with Christ at the centre. Read HERE for more information about the interpretation of Scripture.
We live this out by:
- Gathering for God-centred worship that delights in His glory
We gather each week to worship Him with reverence and joy, to pray together in dependence, and to respond to His Word. Our worship is shaped not by preference or performance, but by the character of God and the pattern of Scripture. He is both the object and the audience of our worship.
- Preaching and teaching the Bible faithfully, making Christ known
We believe the Bible is the inspired, perfect, and unchanging Word of God. It shapes our doctrine, directs our daily lives, and strengthens our commitment to grow in the likeness of Christ. Everything we do is guided by Scripture.
We are a church committed to careful, faithful interpretation of Scripture, using sound hermeneutics and detailed exegesis. You can read more about this HERE.
- Welcoming families and people of all ages to grow together in faith
We believe the church is a diverse and multi-generational family, and we delight in worshipping and growing together. Children, parents, singles, and seniors all belong in the gathered body of Christ. We encourage shared worship, discipleship across generations, and homes that reflect the gospel.
- Praying persistently, depending fully on God’s power
Prayer is not an accessory to our life together—it’s essential. We gather regularly to pray because we believe God hears and answers. In our homes, in small groups, and in our services, we call on Him in weakness and faith, knowing that apart from Him, we can do nothing.
- Loving and serving one another as a visible family of God
The gospel creates a new kind of community—marked by humility, compassion, and commitment. We strive to be a church where burdens are shared, needs are met, and grace is extended.
- Bibical counselling
We counsel from Scripture, believing God’s Word is sufficient to address the issues of the heart. Our aim is not behaviour management, but Christ-centred transformation through truth, applied with care, clarity, and compassion in the life of the church.
- Engaging in gospel missions both locally and globally
Jesus has sent His church into the world to make disciples of all nations. We seek to share the good news of salvation in Hermanus and beyond—through personal evangelism, church outreach, partnerships with missionaries, and support for gospel workers around the world.
As a church, we joyfully covenant together to live out these commitments. Following salvation and baptism, we welcome a new believer into our fellowship through a shared covenant—binding the church and the new member together in love and commitment before the Lord. Our church covenant is available HERE.
