I was clearing up today and came across an old Christmas tag that read, “We must be special that we deserved Jesus.” It reminded me of Sunday’s sermon, where we saw in Scripture, the cross wasn’t about affirming our worth—it was about Jesus becoming King, purifying a people for Himself, and calling us to wholehearted devotion, for His glory.
“While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8, ESV). His sacrifice wasn’t because we were deserving, but because He is gracious.
The cross is the ultimate proof of God’s justice—all sin must be punished. It’s the ultimate proof of God’s love—He crushed His Son in our place. And it’s the declaration of His unmatched glory: He alone is God and worthy of worship.
The gospel isn’t primarily about us. It is about Jesus, by Jesus, and for Jesus.
He died not only to save us, but to give us the greatest privilege: to be captivated forever by His splendour. Our worship flows from gratitude—but must press beyond, until we delight in who He is.
This Easter, lift your eyes from any perceived self-worth to the splendour of His victory and the glory of our risen King.
